Gig Recap: The Evergreen Pub
We had an AMAZING crowd last night at The Evergreen Pub & Grill in St Charles. This was one of our best shows and crowds we’ve ever had!
Very enthusiastic, very fun, so much dancing and singing!!
We saw many old friends and made new friends as well!! We hope you all enjoyed the show as much as we did. What a blast!
Check out the short clip of us playing Under Pressure ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RviFblclCYk ) which was a collab between Queen and David Bowie. Listen to Ricky’s Vocals!! I dont know of a better Freddie Mercury around than this guy! And Michael is our Fantastic Elton John but he and Matt double up on the Bowie vocals on this track!

Gig Recap: Dock’s Bar and Grill
Two Gigs in Two Days
Two gigs this past weekend went by in a blur.
Danny’s on Douglas in Elgin, IL 01/10/2025 on Friday and Dock’s Bar & Grill in Wauconda, IL on Saturday 01/11/2025.
Some of us were tired by the start of the Docks gig.
Load in was nice through their door on the deck, though we felt a bit bad for the group of teenagers enjoying their dinner right next to the door as it was cold outside. On the ice of bangs lake right off the shore there were rectangles of cleared ice almost looked like the ice was broken up and it was water there. Apparently Dock’s holds a sport out on the ice in the winter, may come back to try it.
Setup was relatively uneventful and we figured out a few more of the settings on our digital mixer. Most of us in Quest grew up in the pre digital mixer age so the fact that all the faders and setting reside on a tablet connected through wifi is a new idea.
The crowd was stupendous and made for a really rocking show. We had so many people there supporting us and a whole lot more walk ins from the bar area. When we played “Under Pressure” by Queen it seemed to pull a flock over into our room and it got pretty crowded through the second and into the third set.
We had our first “music analyst” in the audience who claimed that they used to write for a very large Chicago based music reviewing organization. It was interesting getting their perspective on all three of the groups that we play. While we may staunchly disagree with some of this person’s assessments it was a good conversation a great connecting with the crowd through some conversation between sets.
Eric, our guitarist always plays really well, but man was he on with his solos tonight, you could see everyone’s eyes light up whenever he stood up there. The end of Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding really stood out as a gem of the night.
Gig 2 of the year under our Belts
Gig Recap: Danny’s On Douglas Elgin, IL
Day one of two gig weekend!
First gig of 2025!
Danny’s is always a great place to play with a big stage and welcoming management. This is Quest’s second time playing here and in many ways, the trouble that we had here the first time with setup mirrored the second time. It truly seemed like we were off to a great start when we had over an hour and all the equipment and mics setup in their proper places. We even ordered our pizza and were able to eat a bit prior to showtime. However, we had some major issues with feedback in the main room at Danny’s that took all the way until showtime to sort out. The band in general was in a bit of a frantic funk because of this so our first few songs were not as good as we are capable of.
All things considered we settled in and were able to get over ourselves. We had the privilege of working with John Kattke (http://www.johnkattke.com/) as our sound guy for the night. If you are in the Chicago music scene and don’t know John, you really ought to as he is the most talented yet humble musician we have ever met in person. We hired him in because we find that we are better when we don’t have a playing band member monitoring the mix. In general we try to get someone in to do sound when the venue doesn’t have a dedicated sound tech on staff. John was great and rolled with the punches really well.
All in all, the night could have been better but we are finding that even at our worst, our level of playing and showmanship has gotten pretty polished.
Pack it up and do it all again tomorrow night at Dock’s Bar & Grill in Wauconda, IL!
Anyone coming along for the double dose of Quest this weekend?
